Being paid to sit under a tree and write

I met Cassie in a soul-led business challenge and was deeply moved by her story.

Years ago, while she was a student, her teacher asked her to write about her dream career. Her vision was crystal clear: “Being paid to sit under a tree and write.” She was immediately discouraged by her teacher, who said this was IMPOSSIBLE. “You cannot make a living from this; you may want to choose a more traditional path.” So, she followed her studies and got a job in the corporate world before her creative awakening.

Speaking with her was a revelation. She told me: “OH MY… the vision has always been there!”

I started to open up possibilities around her vision of “Being paid to sit under a tree and write” by sharing a creative retreat I lead in the South of France—in the Sainte Baume Forest.

It was a specific retreat focused on sacred sexuality that gathered an intimate group of six women leaders. I prepared art books, supplies, and refreshments. We started by walking into the forest, sitting down in a sacred spot to set our intention for the journey, then walking again to our next step, just under the trees and massive stone foundations.

I guided a meditation, a sound journey through my shamanic drum, and we entered into a creative process. We then walked again to our next break point for lunch, where we held conscious conversations about relationships, slut-shaming, money, and our contribution to the world.

It was a space to be ALL OF US: our creative self, our sexual self, our spiritual self, our entrepreneur self. We journaled, sang, created, laugh, cried, shout, dream of the futur and connected to the wild nature and the aliveness with us and all around us.

Cassie was deeply inspired by this possibility for her next business expression: To be paid to write, sit under a tree, and just BE who she truly is. She felt that she and her business were ready to pivot to this next expression. This became her path of full allowance—the Sacred Fuck YES to her greatest vision to embody her specific body of work and lead her next-level writing retreat in connection to nature.

Trees are amazing whisperers. They are intelligent beings ready to inspire our book writing, sales page copy, website language, or simply a healing process through art & writing, for our unprocessed emotions.
